Former
1956 Shakamak Park Open Swimming and Diving Meet Member
Seeks Program From 1957 Competition,,,

As follows, I am trying to connect with
people in your area who might
help me regain more of one of my most wonderful life memories,
concerning a few days in the summer of 1956 I spent among
the folks
in the Jasonville area, at Shakamak State Park. I also
sent what
follows to the email address of Mr. Max Griffith in the
hope of
getting connected, but so far, without success.
Shortly after my release from service in
the Army, I made a bus
journey to Shakamak Park in order to compete in the 1956
Shakamak
Park Open Swimming and Diving Meet. The people at that
competition
made me feel more welcome than I had ever felt during my
eight
previous years as a competitive high school, college, and
US Army
diver and trampolinist. This, my final career diving competition
went
well, for I won the 10 meter Platform Diving event. Now,
in my mid-
seventies, I still treasure the memories of those summer
days.
Unfortunately, I have no clipping that
recounts who my fellow
competitors were, details of the competitions, nor how
the
competitions came out. What I do recall is that a High
School
student named Bill Barton who, I believe, went on to compete
for
Indiana University was one of the best divers in our competition.
After returning to my home in Illinois
and the start of my post-
military job search, I regretted that I had no pictures
nor newspaper
information about those friends I made at that, my final
competition.
Apparently, a summary article of the competition
appeared in the
Program for the following year's Shakamak Open. I understand
that my
picture in mid-dive is on the cover of that 1957 program.
It would
be wonderful If I could obtain a clear copy of that program
cover and
interior article.
If you could suggest who I might best contact
for this purpose, I
would be most grateful.

1926
Jasonville High School Football Team

The following is a photograph of the 1926
Jasonville High School Football team taken in front of
the Jasonville High School. This team had a perfect record
and was declared State Champs. My late father, Charles
A. (Chuck) Hochstetler was a member of the team. The
photograph is original in great condition. I did small
retouch to remove the date 1926 which was written in
ink above the team on the middle door. Some of the names
are misspelled in the writing on the backside.
The team included four pair of brothers.

the photograph passed away in November, 1988. He graduated
from Jasonville High School in 1927.

A photo of a young Jasonville

the Great Fire behind them. They are William L. Lundy
and Nelle (Helen) Miller. There is no notation of the
date on the original photo.
