To the Class of 1963

TO THE CLASS OF ‘63

Pauline, my friend
We’re friends to the end
Great moments we shared
Growing up way out there.

Beverly, my buddy
We walked roads and fields muddy
Each day as we traveled
Oh, the yarns we unraveled.

Don, with the chuckles and antics
The tale of the steering wheel knob and the panic
A friend through the years
Was there at Mother’s passing and our tears.

Richard, you speeder past our house you did fly
We heard you coming and then you flew by
Your destination we never knew
Always in a hurry, as past the house you flew.

Jim, drove us to work in Dad’s car for a while
He helped us move to Bloomington—our meager pile
Of music and clothes and girl stuff he groaned
Got us out of Jasonville and off on our own.

Jon, the dancer and skater was he
Around French’s rink he was wild and free
He knew all the steps and the moves that he took
An expert at both and we all just looked.

Bob, was the farm boy white t-shirt and jeans
Now he’s an avid fisherman it seems
In those days he worked on farms to harvest and plant
Sometimes for Bernice Mitchell, his aunt.

Gene Talpas, the athlete
Converse sneakers on his feet
Dunking baskets in the driveway
Batting baseballs all the day.

Steve, as a young boy in second or third grade
Swallowed a nickel and teacher was afraid
But he came out OK, an electrician became
Wiring houses for others, so glad you came.

Sondra, the lady Juliet Prouse resembled
Took classes together all summer assembled
While others had fun after graduation
We were at our typewriters and office education.

Kathryn, my friend known as Kate
Many lunches from Brady’s together we ate
Snickers, Mars and chips and pop
From this bad diet we wouldn’t stop.

Judy, the cheer leader and kind hearted too
She still is a kindhearted mother of two
Children and grandchildren, dedicated is she
We had a good phone visit, Judy and me.

Allen worked for my dad a mechanic was he
In high school fast cars did set him free
He fought for our country, a hero is he
I will always appreciate and remember Allen Z

Linda, like me from a large family she came
She’s the same as she was, she didn’t change
A nurse helping others get well and recover
I’ll always remember her dad, Eldon & mother.

Ed, was my neighbor; we rode the same bus
I hope he still remembers us
From first through twelfth we were together
Midland Middies—birds of a feather.

And then there is Louhon the mathematician
With numbers he always was a magician
Playing with slide rules for recreation
He does it still all over the world and this nation.

We cannot forget our Karen and David
Though gone now in our hearts they are saved
Good hearted girl and handsome young boy
They live in our memories through tears and joy.

Classmates all so dear to my heart
Forty-five years ago we drifted apart
Now back together to enjoy and reflect
I love you all, you have my respect.

We’ll meet again when fifty rolls around
I hope God’s blessings in your lives abound
Till we meet again God bless and take care
And pray we’re all together again to visit and share.

This class of 1963 was the last one to be
Leaving Old Midland High onto life’s sea
Choose to keep the memories fond and tender
And with kindness and love, reflect and remember

Class of ‘63
You are dear to me.
God Bless!
